Brock is constantly studying ways to make our product even friendlier to the environment whether it means changing material composition, manufacturing processes or using recycled materials in our marketing brochures. At Brock, “being green” isn’t a trendy catch phrase, it’s a state of mind.

Building an athletic field with Brock Performance Base is better for the environment than one produced with stone. Here’s why:

• Less material is needed for construction as well as removal during excavation

Our material is thinner and requires only a two-inch leveling base, That means less land destruction, fewer semi-trucks running back and forth to the job site, and less air and noise pollution in the neighborhood.

• Fewer trucks are required to remove and deliver material

We’ve estimated that with fewer trucks required to remove and deliver material, there is an average savings of more than 4,000 gallons of fuel per project when Brock is used.

You don’t have to take our word for this. In a recent independent study by the Rocky Mountain Institute in conjunction with the Athena Institute, Brock Performance Base demonstrated significant environmental benefits over a stone base, including:

• A 60-65% reduction in the amount of aggregate used
• A 50-60% reduction in the amount of soil excavated
• A 100% reduction of in-field drainage pipe usage (depending on location)
• A 45-55% savings regarding on-site construction and materials transportation energy used (depending on location)
• Positive results for Brock Performance Base in Smog Formulation Potential, Human Particulate Potential (airborne particulates) and Eutrophication Potential (over fertilization of surface waters)

Brock material even acts as a water filter as we’ve passed the most stringent water quality tests throughout the US and Europe. Additionally, Brock is a Lead-Free product so it's safe to play on throughout the life of the field.
