BROCK-COMMISSIONED STUDY: LESSENING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT WHEN CONSTRUCTING A SYNTHETIC TURF SURFACE - Brock scores high both environmentally and in cost-savings (Brock USA, Boulder, CO) - An independent Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) was conducted by the Rocky Mountain Institute in partnership with Athena Institute in order to determine the environmental implications of constructing an infilled synthetic turf field over a traditional stone base versus constructing the same field over a Brock Performance Base™. The results indicate that overall environmental impact for the Brock USA underlayment synthetic turf system, relative to the conventional stone base system, translated into an on-site construction and materials transportation energy use savings of 45% - 55%, depending on location. For this reason, the LCA indicated positive results for the Brock material in categories such as Smog Formation Potential, Human Particulate Potential (airborne particulates), and Eutrophication Potential (the over-fertilization of surface waters). “More environmental construction methods are needed for synthetic turf field bases” says Dan Sawyer, CEO of Brock USA. “This study on Brock vs. traditional stone base construction shows a significant local environmental benefit for choosing the Brock Performance Base system over a stone base. Plus there are performance and drainage benefits to Brock not achievable in a stone base.” For a copy of the study, please contact Brad Bricker, VP Sales and Marketing at Phone: 303.544.5800 Ext. 105 or Email: bbricker@brockusa.com Brock® is a patented drainage and impact layer that replaces the stone and pads commonly used under synthetic turf. Brock® installs faster than stone (in days, not weeks), uses a simpler drainage system, reduces cost and is more environmentally friendly than traditional stone bases.
